Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-16 · Last updated October 16, 2026
Effective October 16, 2026. This policy explains what LookForParty collects, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It covers our public website, lookforparty.com, and the LookForParty app on the web, iPhone and Android.
The short version
- We collect as little as we can and still help you find a game.
- We never store your birth date or your exact location. Your device works out your age group and a rough area, about 150 meters across for adults and 5 kilometers for teens, and only that is sent to us. We forget your area after 30 days.
- Other players never see where you are. Distances are always to a store or a game, never to you.
- Direct messages between adults are end-to-end encrypted. We can't read them. Event, group and store chats are encrypted on our servers and can be read by our moderators if something is reported.
- We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for targeted ads.
- Our public website uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, which set cookies. The app doesn't use either. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, neither one loads.
- You can download your data and delete your account at any time, from the app's settings.
LookForParty is under active development
LookForParty is new and changing quickly. We add, change and remove features often, and sometimes within a day. When a change affects what we collect, who can see it or how long we keep it, we update this policy the same day it goes live. If the change matters to how we use your information, the app asks you to accept the new version before you continue. The date at the top always shows the current version.
Who we are
LookForParty is made by Giga-Green Technologies, Inc. ("we", "us"), a North Dakota corporation based in Tucson, Arizona, and a small team of independent developers. LookForParty is for people in the United States. For anything about your privacy, email us at info@lookforparty.com.
Our public website
Analytics and cookies
To see which pages help people and where they get stuck, lookforparty.com uses two analytics services. They run only on the public website, never in the app, so they never see your account, messages, games or location.
- Google Analytics 4 counts visits and how people move between pages. Google's advertising features (Google Signals and ad personalization) are turned off, and Google Analytics keeps this data for 2 months.
- Microsoft Clarity shows how visitors scroll and click on a page, including recordings of visits and heatmaps. Clarity is set to mask the text on every page, so recordings show the page's layout and movement but not what's written or typed. Microsoft keeps recordings for up to 30 days and heatmap data for up to 13 months.
Both receive information about your visit: the pages you open, the links and buttons you use, your browser and device type, your rough location from your IP address, and the site that sent you. Google and Microsoft handle it under their own privacy statements: Google's Privacy Policy and the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
These cookies are set on lookforparty.com:
| Cookie | Set by | What it's for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Telling one visitor's visits apart from another's | Up to 2 years |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Recognizing a returning visitor | 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Joining the pages of one visit together | 1 day |
Microsoft may also set its own cookies on its Clarity domains. The website remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device. It sets no other cookies of its own.
Your choices: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, neither Google Analytics nor Clarity loads at all. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings, or use Google's opt-out browser add-on. The website works the same either way.
Our social media
LookForParty posts on its own social media accounts (such as Discord, X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky and LinkedIn). Those posts, and the share images that go with them, only ever show what this website already shows: stores, and events that stores host. Never a player, a home game or anyone's name. A store can ask not to be featured. When you open one of our accounts, that platform's own privacy policy applies there; we don't tell it who you are, and we never see your social media accounts.
The launch list
If you ask us to tell you when LookForParty opens, we keep your email address, whether you're a player or a store, and the city and store name if you give them. Nothing is kept until you confirm by clicking the link we email you. The list is held by our email provider, used only to tell you about LookForParty opening near you, and never shared with advertisers. It's for adults only. Unsubscribe from any email, or email us to have your address deleted. Once LookForParty opens in an area and we've announced it, we delete that list.
When you contact us
If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you and keep a record of what we did. We delete it when we no longer need it.
The LookForParty app
What we collect
- Your account: your email address and password (stored only as a secure hash), or the fact that you signed in with Google or Apple. We don't keep the name or photo Google or Apple send us. If you turn on passkeys or two-step sign-in, we keep what they need to work.
- Your profile: the handle you choose, optional pronouns, the games and formats you play, and your settings. Other people see your handle at games you share, never your email address.
- Your age group, not your birth date: you enter your birth month and year on your device, and it never leaves. Adults send us only that they're an adult. Teens send us only the date they turn 18, worked out on the device.
- Your rough area: your device turns its position, or a ZIP code or city you type, into an area cell, and only the cell is sent. What you type is looked up on your device and never sent anywhere. We forget the cell after 30 days, and it's never shown to anyone.
- What you do in the app: games you RSVP to, host or join the waitlist for; whether you came (marked by the host); stores you follow; friends; groups; your Stash; reviews you write; rewards; and notification and email settings.
- Your Stash and cards: the games, decks, characters and other things you add, and, for Magic decks, the cards in each deck. Your friends can see your Stash; only you see a deck's card list. If you keep a card collection, we store each card, its printing, finish, condition, how many you have and whether you'd trade it, and work out its value from daily prices. Only you see your collection and its value.
- Card lookup: the words you type to look up a card are sent to our servers, which look them up with Scryfall without sending anything about you. We keep recent searches for a few minutes so repeat searches are fast, without linking them to you.
- Games at a table: when a game uses game mode, we keep the table's life totals and every change to them (who made it, to whom, and who it came from if someone says), turn times, draws, tables and the game's summary afterwards. The people at that table, its host and the host's helpers can see them. A host can add a guest who has no account by a nickname; guests are never contacted. A store's TV display shows only short names, never a teen's.
- Trades and lending, if you're 18 or older: listings you post (shown to signed-in adults and stores near you as a rough distance, never a place), who's interested, and trade chats. When you lend something from your Stash, we keep who has it and when it's due back; the borrower's friends see only that it's out.
- Game Lounge: games you play against a friend (each move, the result and your rating). Games played on one device, against the computer or with people sitting together, stay on that device; only a bot game's result is sent, to keep a rating. If you choose a home store, your handle and rating appear on its ladder to signed-in players.
- Friend invites by email: the address you invite, encrypted, with a one-way code to match it. The email never names you. We delete the address once it's answered, or after 30 days.
- Two rewards for spreading the word, if you're 18 or older: the first time you share a game or store with our share button, and the first time you open one of our social media pages from "Find us", we note that you did it, so you get the EXP. We never record what you shared, who with, or which page you opened.
- Your free time, if you set it: the hours you're usually free to play, in person or online, and the games you'd like to play then. If you share it, friends who share theirs see only the times you're both free, never your whole week.
- Online games: the platform a game is on, and the join link or room code its host adds. The link is encrypted, and only the host and players with a confirmed seat see it. Online games are shown only to the host's friends.
- Messages: what you write in event, group and store chats, and the encrypted copies of direct messages (which we can't read).
- Payment handles you choose to add (such as a Venmo username), shown only to your friends when a home game's dinner suggests chipping in. Never a phone number or email address.
- Purchases: your plan, its status and renewal dates, and the reference numbers from Stripe, Apple or Google. Your card and bank details stay with them.
- Device information: your IP address and browser or app type with each sign-in session, and, if you turn on push notifications, your phone's push token and time zone.
- Safety records: reports you make or that are made about you, moderators' decisions, and appeals.
Home games
If home games are open in your area, a host's street address is encrypted. It's shown only to the host and to guests the host approved, from 24 hours before the game, and deleted 7 days after it (or as soon as the game is cancelled). A host can choose to save their address for their next game; it's encrypted, only they can see it, and they can remove it at any time. Guests can share dietary needs for a dinner; the host sees a summary that names a guest only if the guest allows it, and it's deleted a day after the game.
ID checks
Some things need a government ID check: a parent approving a teen's account, and adults who want to host games at home. These checks are done by Persona. You give your ID and a selfie to Persona, not to us. We keep only the result (approved or not), a reference number and the dates, and we ask Persona to delete the ID details once the check is decided.
What we never collect
- Your date of birth.
- Your exact location or GPS coordinates, and never your location in the background.
- Your contacts, photos or files.
- Your card, bank or ID document details.
- The content of your direct messages.
How we use information
- To run LookForParty: show you games and stores near you, seat you, and send you reminders and updates you've asked for.
- To keep people safe: enforce age rules, blocks and our community guidelines, look into reports, and stop abuse and fraud.
- To take payments and give you what you paid for.
- To understand and improve LookForParty, using counts that don't identify anyone. Small counts are shown as "fewer than 5".
- To meet our legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
We don't use your information to build an advertising profile of you.
Who sees what
- Other players see your handle at games you share, and what you choose to show: the games you're happy to teach, your Stash (friends only), and whether you're online (friends only, and only if you turn it on). They never see your area, your age or your email address.
- Your player card, which opens when someone taps your handle, shows them only what they could already see: your handle, pronouns, games, level and ratings, and, for friends, your Stash and when you're both free. A teen's card shows adults only their handle.
- Stores see who's going to their own events, and messages you send them. Stores see only how many people follow them, never who.
- Our moderators see reported messages and the ones around them, and every time staff look at personal information it's recorded in a log that can't be edited.
- Blocks are two-way and silent: the person isn't told, and you won't see each other's games or messages.
Companies that help us
We use these companies to run LookForParty. They handle personal information only to provide their service to us.
- Railway hosts our servers and database, and Cloudflare delivers our website and protects it from attacks. Both see your IP address when you visit.
- Resend sends our emails, so it handles your email address and the emails we send you.
- Stripe handles payments on the web; Apple and Google handle purchases in their app stores.
- Persona runs ID checks.
- Expo, with Apple and Google, delivers push notifications. A notification carries only a short fixed title (such as "New message") and where to open in the app: never message text, names or places.
- Scryfall provides card data and prices for the card lookup. Our servers ask it about cards, never about you. Card images load straight from Scryfall's image servers, which see your IP address but nothing about who you are.
- Buffer posts to LookForParty's own social media accounts. It only ever receives what our public website shows.
- OpenFreeMap provides map images. It sees which area of the map is shown, but nothing about who you are.
- Google (Analytics, and ads as below) and Microsoft (Clarity, on the website only).
Ads
Free accounts for adults show some ads. Teens and Player Plus members never see ads. We choose our own ads using only the screen they're on and the game on it, never anything about you, your area or your messages, and we count views and clicks per ad per day without recording who saw or clicked.
When we have no ad of our own, the app may show one from Google: Google AdMob on phones, and Google Ad Manager on the web. These ads are never personalized, and the app never asks for your phone's advertising ID. On the web, Google's ad code runs in a separate, sealed-off frame on its own domain, so it can't read anything in the app. Google still receives your IP address and basic device information, and may set cookies on that frame's domain.
Teens and children
LookForParty isn't for children under 13. If someone under 13 tries to sign up, the app stops them on their device, and no account is made.
Teens aged 13 to 17 need a parent's approval, by the parent paying for a Plus plan or checking their ID with Persona. We keep the parent's email address encrypted. If a parent doesn't approve within 14 days, we delete the teen's account and the parent's email address. Teens can't send or receive direct messages, never see home games, are never shown ads, and only ever share an area about 5 kilometers across. A parent can ask us about their teen's information, or ask us to delete it, at info@lookforparty.com.
If you think a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
How long we keep it
- Your area: 30 days.
- Event chat: 90 days after the game. Group chat: a year after a message is sent, or 90 days after the group ends. Store chat and direct messages: a year after they're sent.
- Notifications: 90 days. Push notification records: 30 days.
- Whether you came to a game: 180 days after it.
- A home game's address: 7 days after the game. Dinner dietary needs: a day after it.
- An online game's join link: a day after the game, or as soon as it's cancelled.
- Game mode: draws 90 days after the game; tables, life totals, summaries and ratings a year after it. Guest nicknames: 90 days.
- Trades: a closed listing 90 days after it closes; a trade chat 90 days after its last message. Finished loans: a year.
- Game Lounge: games with a friend a year after they end; results against the computer, 30 days.
- Requests to play: 90 days. What you're bringing to a game and game invites: 30 days after the game. Scheduling polls: 30 days after they close.
- Your account: until you delete it. Deletion waits 30 days in case you change your mind, then your profile, games, follows, friends and the rest are deleted, and you're shown as "Deleted user" in games other people were at.
Some records are kept longer, because the law or safety needs them: which version of our terms and this policy you accepted; a parent's verified approval (7 years after the account is deleted); safety reports, moderation decisions and staff access logs; and anything under a legal hold. Messages that are part of a report about a child's safety or someone being in danger are kept as evidence.
How we protect it
Your sign-in details are kept apart from the rest of your data, and the information we're most careful with (a parent's email address, home addresses, chat messages, dietary notes) is encrypted on our servers. Direct messages are encrypted end to end, with keys that stay on your devices. Staff access needs two-step sign-in, is limited to what each role needs, and is logged. Our servers keep no record of what you search for or send us in their logs. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- See and download your data: in the app's settings. Direct messages can be downloaded from a device that can read them.
- Correct it: edit your profile, games and settings in the app, or email us.
- Delete your account: in the app's settings. You have 30 days to change your mind.
- Control what you get: turn emails, push notifications and online status on or off in the app's settings, and unsubscribe from any email.
- Location: you can type a ZIP code or city instead of sharing your device's location, or turn location off in your device's settings.
Depending on where you live (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale, of sharing for targeted advertising, and of profiling. We don't sell or share personal information, or use it for targeted advertising or profiling, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out anyway.
To use any of these rights, use the app's settings or email us at info@lookforparty.com. We'll confirm it's you (usually by replying to the email address on your account) and answer within 45 days. You can ask someone to act for you if they can show your permission. If we say no, you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our answer; if you still disagree, you can contact your state's attorney general. We'll never treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
California residents: in the last 12 months we've collected the kinds of information described above (identifiers such as email and IP address; account and purchase records; your activity in the app; your general area; and, for some people, the result of an ID check), from you, your device and the companies listed above, for the purposes described above. We haven't sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don't knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.
Where your information is kept
LookForParty is offered only in the United States, and we keep your information on servers in the United States.
Changes to this policy
LookForParty is under active development, so this policy changes as LookForParty does. Each time it changes we update the date at the top. If a change matters to how we use your information, we tell you in the app or by email, and the app asks you to accept the new version before you continue.
